Abstract

The polymer films of PMMA and its composites with Fe2 O3 and with Al2 O3 of different thickness at various weight percentages are prepared by solution casting method. The films of PMMA for 0.5, 1, 2 and 3 N concentrations are used for optical absorption studies using UV-vis Spectrometer over the range 200–900 nm. The samples are characterized by using X-Ray diffractometer and Raman Spectroscopy. The samples are also characterized by using FTIR over the range of wavenumber 3,500–500 cm-1. Further, variation of the Raman intensity of composite films of PMMA with Fe2O3 at different weight percentages such as 20, 40 and 60, and with that of Al2 O3 at 20 wt% for 1 N concentrations are also observed. The particles shape and size of PMMA and its composite are also obtained by UV-vis absorbance spectra and the same was confirmed through the morphological studies of these films by using FESEM. The particle shapes are not in spherical and the particle sizes of PMMA are obtained in the range 39–150 nm and that of PMMA with Fe2O3 are from 53 to 111 nm.
