Abstract

Surface functionalizing of carbon nanotubes and other carbon-based nanomaterials is discussed in present chapter. In particular, in chapter one can find a description of approaches and modifiers typically used for surface functionalizing of carbon-based nanomaterials, as well as consequences of surface functionalization for operating characteristics of carbon-based gas sensors. The role of defects in graphene functionalizing is analyzed as well. It is shown that controlled creation of defects with a high spatial selectivity can be used for functionalization of graphene samples, i.e. for creation of graphene-based sensors with the designed properties by various applications. Chapter includes 7 figures, 4 Tables and 80 references.
