Investigated correlations between distress and loneliness in equitable and inequitable relationships, using equity theory, among 68 elderly people (aged 65+ yrs) at an old people's home. The more beneficial the relationship between elderly Ss and their social supporters was perceived to be, the higher the scores on a measure of happiness and contentment. There was a significant correlation between loneliness scores and scores from a measure of anger and guilt. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
