Abstract

Extensive research on the neuropsychology of the parietal and occipital epilepsies has not yet been undertaken. The parietal lobes are known to be important for aspects of attention, spatial processing, spoken and written language, coordinated motor sequencing, and sensory function. The occipital lobes are known to be involved in visual processing. Although the clinical phenomena associated with seizures arising in the parieto-occipital areas provide clues to the functioning of these brain regions, systematic study is necessary to understand the ways in which epilepsy, particularly in the developing child, has an impact on these diverse and important functions.
