Abstract

Realizou-se a caracterização do teor de cafeína no tegumento e amêndoa de sementes de plantas matrizes de guaraná (Paullinia cupana (Mart.) Ducke) existentes no Instituto Agronômico, no Vale do Ribeira,SP. Os teores de cafeína apresentaram valores médios de 2,33 ± 0,38% na amêndoa, de 1,09± 0,29 no tegumento e de 2,15± 0,34% na semente como um todo.Seeds of "guarana" (Paullinia cupana (Mart.) Ducke) collected from plants growing at the Experimental Station of Pariquera-Açu, State of São Paulo, Brazil, were analysed for their caffeine contents. The results showed average values for the caffeine contents (dry matter basis) of 1.09 ± 0.29% in the tegument and 2.33 ± 0.38% in the cotyledon and embryo and 2.15 ± 0.34% in the whole seed.
