Abstract

Edible insects are highly nutritious with high fat, protein, and mineral contents that represent a good alternative food and feed source. Legal frameworks ought to enable the utilization of insects as ingredients for food and feed. Many countries have legislation that refers to insects in food as impurities which prescribes most permissible levels. It seems, therefore, that specific legislation to manage the utilization of insects in food and feed is to be developed.
