Abstract

The Jones Fracture comprises a stress fracture occurring at the junction of the diaphysis and metaphysis of the fifth metatarsal bone. It could present as an acute fracture, a subacute fracture, or as a chronic fracture with established nonunion. The Jones Fracture has a strong tendency for nonunion and recurrence after being apparently healed. Thus, though treatment could be conservative with a non-weight bearing cast for 6–12 weeks, the preferred treatment in active competitive athletes is surgical using an intramedullary screw allowing return to sport within 7–8 weeks.
