Abstract

This review article is concerned with the foundations, current principles, implants, survival times and factors influencing treatment success in hip, knee and shoulder endoprosthetics and discusses typical risks and possible complications. Additionally, an expert assessment of prostheses wearers in the various legal fields is presented. The prosthesis surcharge that is standard in private accident insurance in Germany is critically discussed and comments are made on the current discussion on revaluation of the reduction in earning capacity in the statutory accident insurance.
