Abstract

#WakingTheFeminists (or #WTF) has set off a revolutionary chain of events within the theatre industry both nationally and internationally. Driven by a need to challenge the status quo and demand equality on the national stage of Ireland, those involved in the grass roots movement of fourth wave feminist activism are determined to redress the balance of power and representation on the Irish stage. This chapter examines the movement—how and why it began, what it has achieved so far, and where its future possibilities lie—in a bid to capture how important this movement is to both contemporary theatre makers and historical analyses of the theatrical canon.
