Abstract

Four bases A, C, G and T of DNA sequences are divided into three kinds of classifications according to their chemical properties. We convert a DNA primary sequence into three symbolic sequences. The frequencies of group mutations of three symbolic sequences have been grouped into a twelve-component vector to represent the DNA sequence. The Euclidean distances among introduced vectors are applied to characterize and compare the coding sequences of the first exon of beta globin gene of 11 different species. © 2012 Springer-Verlag GmbH.
