Abstract

Intimate partner violence (IPV) has been shown to have downstream effects on the lives of children. The effects of IPV on children range from difficulty coping with emotions to emulating abusive behaviors. This chapter explores the prevalence of a subset of IPV which occurs in teenaged populations, teen dating violence (TDV), and its impact on future intimate relationships. Addressing the effects of IPV and TDV in our vulnerable children and adolescents will hopefully decrease the impact of IPV in adult relationships and spare future generations from needless psychological harm.
