Abstract

The common causes of intestinal obstruction in children, their division into congenital and acquired causes and their salient features are discussed in brief. Also included is an outline of important features in the history, clinical symptoms and signs, investigations that will allow/help differentiate between the various causes of intestinal obstruction in children. This should help the general physicians and paediatricians in starting initial management in a child with intestinal obstruction-from new born to teenage children-and then considering the appropriate pathway for referral for further definitive management.
