Objective: The objective of this work is to analyze the challenges and challenges of Environmental Education (EE) in order to give an account of what is happening in six master's degree programs in Mexico in the face of the major trends in the environment and in Education, where knowledge is generated and researchers are trained who are key and critical for EE in postgraduate programs in Mexico. Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework from which we start is the interdisciplinary paradigm, with the contextual framework of the different trends of EA, are in historical process ranging from Education for conservation from 50's to 60's in transit to Education for Sustainable Development in 2015. Method: The research method used was the socio-critical in a quantitative analysis of the programs and qualitative analysis of their implications, then the methodology used was mixed and the main source was the data collected from programs, universities, centers and institutes. Results and conclusion: The main results were to locate the megatrends are: 1) Autonomy and self-governance; 2) Commodification and differentiation and 3) Massification and internationalization and Interdisciplinarity and EA go in parallel. Originality/value: the value of this implies research relating the role of master's degrees to trends in academia and society.
