Abstract

The characteristic features of all fluorine containing polymers are outstanding chemical resistance, good dielectric properties, nonflammability, and excellent low friction properties. Typical applications are in electronics, process engineering, the clothing industry, building and nonstick coatings. A distinction was made between nonmelt processable homopolymer polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and the thermoplastic copolymers. The growth area for fluoroplastics is that of electrical insulation for cables and lines in the communications world and the flame retardancy of fluoroplastics is ensuring a growing demand for use in local data networks.
