Abstract

The aim of this study is to clarify costs and benefits of the enclosed arcade of Nibangai, which is thought of as one of prosperous shopping arcades. Through interviews and analyzing documents, following facts are apparent. It is possible to say that economical and human costs of building, maintaining, and taking away an enclosed arcade represent a heavy burden on the local commercial association. On the other hand, cooperative relationships of within the association and the budget of the association are fostered by the existence of an enclosed arcade. And the enclosed arcade also influences aspect of the street.
