Abstract

New Views of the Earth's Interior, a meeting jointly supported by the British Geophysical Association and the Mineralogical Society of Great Britain and Ireland, was held in London, in February 2009. Speakers and participants covered a broad range of Earth and environmental sciences and included geochemists, mineral physicists, geodynamicists and seismologists. Topics covered aspects of the Earth's interior from the crust to the inner core, and from the earliest history to its contemporary state, and perspectives were provided from theoretical, experimental and observational viewpoints. The discussion showed that while enormous progress has been made, still much remains to be resolved, and the future of understanding the structure and processes of the Earth's interior lies in a multidisciplinary approach. © 2009 Royal Astronomical Society.
