Abstract

Chapter 5 presented the results of the analyses of the data collected in the four sections of the research instrument in addition to a preliminary discussion of the findings relating specifically to the sociolinguistic position of English in Japan. This chapter provides a wider in-depth debate on these findings with regards to learners of English and details implications for teaching English in the expanding circle more generally. Finally, the chapter indicates some suggestions for future research and offers concluding remarks.
