In this paper sociodemographic and psychopathological variables in a sample of 250 battered women who were under psychological treatment have been analysed. Likewise scores of both physical (N=156) and psychological (N=94) battered women were compared. The results showed a high level of anxiety -posttraumatic stress disorder- and depression symptoms, as well as a poor adaptation to daily life activities. Differences between the two groups were not observed, in spite of a greater severity of behaviours implied in the group of physically battered women. Implications of this study for clinical practice and future research in this field are commented upon.
