Endovascular repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms offers the exciting possibility of minimally invasive aortic aneurysm repair without the need for intensive care and without the mortality associated with conventional open repair. However the technology is new and there are many potential complications. The pre and post procedural assessment and the technology are also expensive and the technique has yet to prove its durability. It is experimental and should therefore only be performed after fully informed consent and as part of a registry or randomised controlled trial.
