Abstract

The basic chemistry of coal gasification processes is described and the general requirements of coal gasification processes are discussed. Some of the most important processes, both of commercial status and under development, for SNG manufacture i. e. the British Gas/Lurgi Slagging Gasifier, HYGAS, Hydrane, Synthane, Bi-gas and nuclear aided processes are reviewed and their advantages, disadvantages and current status discussed.
