In the recent past, efforts in countering radicalization to violence (CRV) have significantly expanded in Canada. Drawing on national and international developments, research, and frontline experience, this chapter provides an overview of how the field of CRV has evolved and how it is currently unfolding in Canada. It combines contributions from three distinct but complimentary perspectives, two perspectives from civil society organizations and one from a federal government unit. By providing these different perspectives, this chapter seeks to introduce CRV in the Canadian context in a more holistic manner, but also to inform collaboration across multi-sectoral stakeholders. It proposes that evidence- and human rights-based multi-sectoral approaches are among the emerging good practices of CRV, both at the federal and local level, complemented by continued investments in collaboration, training and learning, research, and program evaluation. Combined efforts of diverse sectors contribute to the whole-of-society approach that is needed to prevent and counter radicalization to violence in all its forms, as well as the impacts it has on individuals, communities, and the social fabric of Canada and beyond.
