Abstract

This paper presents the research results of experimental and theoretical investigations carried out to analyze the flow through a control drop structure and to evolve a generalized procedure of design for a talus type canal fall for irrigation works. A study of the flow over the weir of the drop was undertaken with model tests to develop a simplified weir shape with known discharge characteristics. Methods of calculating the elevation of the stilling basin were also presented. This work forms part of the current research on the diffusion of confined turbulent jets and streams and their application to the design of hydraulic structures.
