Abstract

Variable phenotypes are common in nature and in laboratory materials. Guidelines and illustrations are presented to help distinguish developmental, environmental, disease, and somatic recombination-generated variation from the phenotypes caused by transposable elements. © Springer Science+Business Media, New York 2013.
