Abstract

Objective: to describe the physical characteristics and biological of the wires of more suture used in surgical practice daily and their indications. Methods: review was conducted of literature through to search in the databases Pubmed, Embase, Web of Science and Scopus. Results: were described data on the qualities of the ideal suture, general classification and descriptive, criteria for use and the physical and biological characteristics of absorbable sutures, wires, monofilaments and multifilamentary. Conclusion: it was possible to synthesize the current knowledge the respect of strands of suture, to be used by students of medicine, surgery residents, surgeons and its subspecialties.
