Abstract

ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penambahan filler kitosan dan CaCO3 terhadap karakteristik bioplastik dan untuk mengetahui konsentrasi filler kitosan dan CaCO3 yang optimum dalam sintesis bioplastik dari umbi gadung dengan tahapan ekstraksi pati, sintesis bioplastik dengan penambahan filler kitosan dan CaCO3, dan karakterisasi yang meliputi uji ketahanan air, kemampuan biodegradasi, sifat mekanik (kuat tarik, elongasi, dan modulus young), serta analisis gugus fungsi dengan menggunakan spektrofotometer FTIR. Sampel umbi gadung diperoleh dari Desa Bu’nea Kecamatan Minasatene Kabupaten Pangkep, Sulawesi Selatan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konsentrasi filler kitosan maupun CaCO3 sebanding dengan nilai ketahanan air dan berbanding terbalik dengan kemampuan degradasi bioplastik. Sifat mekanik terbaik sekaligus sebagai konsentrasi optimum diperoleh dari penambahan kitosan 6% dengan nilai kuat tarik sebesar 8,85 MPa, elongasi sebesar 11,83% dan nilai modulus young 0,7482 MPa. Adapun CaCO3 3% merupakan konsentrasi optimum yang memberikan sifat mekanik yang paling besar yaitu nilai kuat tarik 7,5522 MPa, elongasi 9,64% serta modulus young 0,7834 MPa. Hasil identifikasi gugus fungsi FTIR terdapat gugus O-H, C-H, N-H, dan C-O yang merupakan gugus fungsi dari bahan penyusun bioplastik yaitu pati, kitosan, dan gliserol..Kata kunci: Bioplastik, Dioscorea Hispida Dennst, kitosan, CaCO3ABSTRACTThis study aims to determine the effect of adding chitosan and CaCO3 fillers to the characteristics of bioplastics and to determine the optimum concentration of chitosan and CaCO3 fillers in the synthesis of bioplastics from gadung-yam. The research sample was gadung-yam which was obtained from Bu’nea Village, Minasate’ne District, Pangkep Regency, South Sulawesi. The research phase includes starch extraction, bioplastic synthesis with the addition of chitosan and filler CaCO3, and characterization which includes testing of water resistance, biodegradability, mechanical properties (tensile strength, elongation, and Young's modulus), as well as analysis of functional groups using FTIR spectrophotometer.The results showed that the filler concentration of chitosan and CaCO3 was proportional to the value of water resistance and inversely proportional to the ability of bioplastic degradation. The best mechanical properties were obtained from the addition of 6% chitosan with a tensile strength value of 8.85 MPa, elongation of 11.83% and Young's modulus value. 0.7482 MPa. The 3% CaCO3 is the optimum concentration that gives the greatest mechanical properties, namely the tensile strength value of 7.5522 MPa, elongation 9.64% and Young's modulus 0.7834 MPa. The result of the identification of the FTIR functional group, there ar O-H, C-H, N-H, and C-O which are functional groups of the building blocks of bioplastics, namely starch, chitosan, and glycerol.Keywords: Bioplastic, Dioscorea Hispida Dennst, chitosan, CaCO3
