Abstract

This handsomely produced volume showcases the advanced technologies available today for documenting and investigating Hampi, one of the most spectacular historical sites in India, a country surely not lacking in such locales. But why chose Hampi? What makes the ruins of this fourteenth-to-sixteenth-century imperial capital, known at the time as Vijayanagara, City of Victory, in what is now central Karnataka, deserve such a creative, laborious exercise? Only those who have never visited Hampi would think to ask such a question. For all those who have experienced Hampi for themselves, the site never ceases to exercise the imagination. Hence the present volume.
