Abstract

Autism is an incurable neurological disease. The main symptoms of this disease are problems with communication and social behaviour. There are difficulties with integration of sensory impressions, too [1]. Nowadays, the only way of solving the problem of autism is rehabilitation, the aim of which is for an autistic person to achieve the best level of functioning in a society. On account of communication problems of autistic people in their education, it is essential to use methods which allow a teacher to move away to the further plan. This is possible by means of virtual reality methods. This kind of computer program is presented in this paper. The program is designed for rehabilitation of autistic children. The main aim of the program is to show typical human behaviour in daily situations and to make the autistic children familiar with emotions expressed by facial expressions. © 2008 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
