Abstract

The agroecosystem, defined as an ecosystem manipulated by frequent, marked anthropogenic modifications of its biotic and abiotic environments, is viewed as a component of the biosphere, and in terms of: ecosystem processes and conservation tillage; soil biota and conservation tillage, and conservation tillage in practice. Comments are made on landscape-level agroecosystem studies, on the need to merge science and management, and on the contributions of environmental biotechnology. -P.J.Jarvis
