Introduction: Parental and academic context as well as labor values are considered in this analysis about the the decision making process of students enrolled in Second course of Bachillerato in the Autonomous Community of Aragon. Methodology: By means of a stratified random sampling, 1568 students (60% women and 40% men) answered the questionnaire 'Orientauni'. Results: As a result of this analysis some interesting differences, mainly related to gender and Higher Education studies, could be identified. On the other hand, in spite of valuing their self-determination, the influence of parents was the most relevant factor in this process. Social values and having the chance of obtaining a dynamic, interesting and varied job represented also determinant factors. Discussion: The importance of academic advising in University from a transversal point of view.
