Orthotic Management of Equinus in Early Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Using a Supramalleolar Tone Balancing Orthosis

Abstract

A supramalleolar orthosis designed to balance tone about the ankle is described. The appliance provides ankle stability, stimulates dorsiflexion, and inhibits plantar flexion, thus delaying equinus contracture requiring surgical release.
