Abstract

General remarks about chemistry, performance and applications of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fibers are followed by a review of techniques used for fireproofing of PET fibers and fabrics made of pure PET or fiber blends. The subject is discussed under the headings - nonreactive flame retardant additives (halogen, phosphorus, phosphorus-halogen combinations, special techniques); ethylene terephthalate copolymers; fiber and fabric treatments; and fabric flammability including flammability tests.
