Abstract

Research on structural health monitoring (SHM) is gaining importance recently due to increase in industrial accidents at construction sites. Wireless sensor networks (WSN) are considered as the promising advanced SHM technology to provide real time site applications using SHM. In this paper, we propose the WIVA (WSN Monitoring Framework based on 3D Visualization and Augmented Reality in Mobile Devices) architecture. The proposed architecture applies 3D visualization and AR technology to camera enabled mobile devices in order to provide real time information to users. Moreover, we performed an experiment to validate the effectiveness of 3D and AR mode based WIVA architecture in IEEE 802.15.4-based WSN. In a real implementation scenario, we demonstrated a fire detection test in a 3-story building miniature. © 2009 Springer Berlin Heidelberg.
