Abstract

2-Oxazolines can be polymerized cationically with a variety of electrophilic initiators to produce linear poly(N-acylethyleneimine)s. A second class of reactions which takes place with 2-oxazolines can be considered as ring-opening additions of phenols, thiophenols, and carboxylic acids. The authors are using, however, two functional groups of m- and p-(hydroxyphenyl)-2-oxazolines for the development of new functional polymers. This paper reviews the work in this area.
