Abstract

New Caledonia is a mountainous island with coral reef formations around the coast. Tide ranges are small. Bold coasts are more common than cliffs. Mangrove fringed salt marshes, and dry saline flats are common on west coast deltas and plains. The Loyalty Islands are a chain of uplifted reef formations. (C.J.U.)
