Abstract

Although schizophrenia and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) are distinct nosological entities, obsessive-compulsive symptoms (OCS) and schizophrenia symptoms frequently coexist in a substantial proportion of patients. In this chapter we will review the relation between schizophrenia and OCD in the context of neuroanatomical, neurochemical and neurodevelopmental abnormalities. Initially we will review the neuroimaging and neurophysiological findings in OCD and schizophrenia per se and later summarize the current knowledge regarding co-morbid OCS in schizophrenia.
