Abstract

Adjust cropping systems, develop multiple cropping and raise multiple cropping indexes are explicitly mentioned by China's National Climate Change Programme (2007). In the USA, multiple cropping is considered to provide an insurance against the loss of a crop to freezes, hailstorms, and other crises in horticulture (Bachmann 2005). In some parts of the tropics, traditional technologies, such as multiple cropping and terracing, act to buffer the system against climate variability, conserve soil fertility, and increase yields (Rosenzweig and Liverman 1992). © 2010 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
