Equivalência de itens, semântica e operacional da versão brasileira da Escala Nordoff Robbins de Comunicabilidade Musical

Abstract

In 1964, the American researchers Nordoff, Robbins and Marcus (2007) designed the Musical Communicativeness Scale. Their approach uses musical instruments, voice and body movements to evaluate various aspects of the capacity of children to communicate through music. Our objective is to evaluate the Brazilian Portuguese translation of the Musical Communicativeness Scale and its explanatory manual. As a methodology, we performed 3 steps of the Universal Validation Model developed by Herdman, Fox-Hushby and Badia (1998), namely item, semantic and operational equivalence. Study participants included four translators during the initial stage and ten evaluators during the translation evaluation process. The Nordoff-Robins Musical Communicativeness Scale was used as an instrument along with its respective explanatory manual. Also, we specially elaborated for this study a form to analyze the translation and a questionnaire for the item, semantic and operational equivalence analysis. According to the analysis of the responses collected from the evaluators, the translation of the scale utilizes understandable language and items pertinent to the Brazilian context, and therefore, may contribute to future research in music and music therapy.
