Abstract

(from the chapter) Self-regulation has major, important implications for success in life, and indeed there is ample basis for asserting that it is one of the most important keys to success. People who are good at self-regulation show a multitude of advantages over other people, in both task performance and interpersonal relations. This chapter has provided an overview of our recent studies on self-regulation. This work has indicated that self-regulation failures are involved in a variety of self-defeating behavior patterns, including taking foolish, destructive risks and procrastinating.
