Abstract

This chapter summarizes the current evidence and knowledge regarding ACL injuries in female soccer athletes. Epidemiology injury data are presented for both male and female soccer players of varying sports levels. The common mechanisms of ACL injuries in soccer are discussed. Published ACL injury prevention training programs designed specifically for female soccer players are described and their effectiveness presented. The authors’ experience with ACL injury prevention training in female soccer players is discussed.
