Abstract

During the past century, there has been a gigantic evolution in our understanding of the perplexing concepts of the biology of human tumors. This chapter is intended to address only the knowledge that has had the most signifi cant impact in this fi eld. Owing to the constraints of space, this chapter is not to be considered all inclusive. We will deal with the pathological basis of tumorigenesis and the basic principles of pathological classifi cation of tumors.
