Abstract

In order to realize accurately calculating and automatically grading of plant disease severity, a single-leaf disease severity automatic grading system based on image processing was developed by using MATLAB GUIDE platform. Using this system, the single-leaf disease severity could be automatically assessed and graded via image development technologies including segmentation processing technologies of plant disease images and related data mining technologies. Structural diagram of the system, algorithms used in the system and realization of the system functions were described. The problems in the current version of the system were discussed and further research on this subject was suggested. The usefulness and adaptability of the system was evaluated using the images of grape downy mildew caused by Plasmopara viticola. The results showed that the effectiveness of the system was favorable with high accuracy. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.
