Abstract

Edutainment games with the feature of learner behavior modeling may differ from many aspects, which made it crucial to define all related information according to a unified model. In this paper, we proposed a novel learner behavior modeling oriented component model for edutainment game-CIE, within which the three interrelated components-"Challenge", "Interactive Activity", and "Element" enabled the design team of edutainment game to design, define, and acquire the contents and information which is related to learner behavior modeling. Through the sub-modules such as "sequence of sub-goals" and "difficulty/workload", the model also provided significant basis for evaluating and analyzing learner behavior qualitatively and quantificationally in a standardized form. The application of the CIE model in the design of an edutainment web game had preliminarily proved its practicality. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.
