Abstract

The competency of moral rehabilitation practitioners involved in the rehabilitation programmes are very important in managing juvenile caseworkers. However, most practitioners and juvenile caseworkers were less likely to have the knowledge and skills in juvenile rehabilitation programmes. This article discussed the skills of practitioners involved in juvenile rehabilitation programmes and utlised a mixed method approach through a Sequential Explanation Design. The study was conducted at a moral rehabilitation center in Peninsular Malaysia and the sampling consisted of practitioners and juvenile caseworkers. Data was collected by distributing questionnaires and interview sessions. The data analysis of the study used SPSS software through a thematic method. Studies showed that the level of implementation skills is moderate (Min = 3.80, SP = 0.38). Interviews with implementation informants indicated that they required continuous input on moral rehabilitation skills. The caseworkers informed that most practitioners were less skilled in communication and problem solving. Therefore, moral rehabilitation practitioners should be provided with continuous and gradual moral rehabilitation training. The findings of this study gave several implications for programme stakeholders in enhancing the effectiveness of juvenile rehabilitation programmes in Malaysia.
