Abstract

The concept of employee well-being has been a long-time topic that traces its historical roots to McGregor’s Theory Y in the management discipline. In this chapter, I describe research findings related to employee well-being. In doing so, I made an attempt to answer the following research questions: What is employee well-being, both definitional and operational? What is the relationship between job satisfaction and personal happiness (positive and negative affect, life satisfaction, subjective well-being, psychological well-being, eudaimonia, etc.)? How does job satisfaction influence personal happiness? What are other consequences of job satisfaction and personal happiness? What are the predictors of job satisfaction? Answering these questions may provide an integrated perspective helping the reader to appreciate the “big picture”.
