This article approaches the main uses of the 5G technology as well as its consequences in the vertical systems and, more specifically, in the industrial automation. It also establishes relations among key performance indicators in several scenarios with other technologies currently in use such as cabled networks and LTE. Significant advantages are experienced in many exposed scenarios, mainly owing to the new distributed 5G network’s topology.
