Abstract

Over the course of time, the role of the Internet has changed a lot because of the evolution of various communication languages and billions of physical devices connected via the Internet around the globe. It is expected that in the near future, storage and communication services will be highly pervasive and distributed—in fact, we are already witnessing the trend to some extent. People, machines, smart objects, surrounding space and platforms connected with wireless/wired sensors, and many types of heterogeneous devices will create a highly decentralized resource pool brought together by a dynamic network of networks. Considering such a setting with millions of connected devices, in this chapter, we present a study on the best potential applications, challenges, and future opportunities in the area of Internet of Things (IoT). We discuss the general aspects and issues of IoT and explore the implication of all these in a developing country’s setting taking the case of Bangladesh.
