This is a complex, controversial subject with a somewhat confusing classification. Since 2006, the phrase disorders of sexual development (DSD) has been advocated, and appears preferable to the older terms, e.g., infants with ambiguous genitalia, hermaphroditism,1 pseudohermaphroditism, or intersex. © 2010 Springer-Verlag London.
