The Buoy system is one of the best for ocean data acquisition, and in Japan, a practical ocean data Buoy project was started in 1972, and the first buoy was moored in the Pacific Ocean. The purpose of this system is observation of meteorological and oceanographic on-line data relative to monitoring and prediction of typhoons or front lines. Sixteen parameters, such as wind direction, wind speed, air pressure, wave height/period, etc. , are acquired and transmitted to a shore station using radio signals eight times a day. The Buoy was operated successfully by the Japan Meteorological Agency for a full year without requiring service, obtaining several valuable experimental data.
