Binocularity and Stereopsis in the Evolution of Vertebrate Vision

Abstract

The investigation of the visual system forms a major part of the effort to compose a more comprehensive picture of the evolution of brain and behavior in vertebrates. The major thrust of this chapter is to consider the emergence of binocular vision and stereopsis as it is now revealed by quite recent anatomical, behavioral, and electrophysiological evidence.
