Abstract

During the high economic growth period in 1960s, Japan's coastal area especially major bay areas like Ise Bay faced serious problems. The necessity to propose a new policy to manage Ise Bay and the bay area from the new point of view has been raised in 1970s and 1980s. The association of the port authorities in Ise Bay area was established in 1982. The association published 'The Ise Bay Management and Development Plan for the 21st century' which deals with future development, utilization and preservation of the bay through serious discussion among the members of the association. This paper presents major future development ideas of Ise Bay from 'The Vision'.
